Bologna description
Bologna is the capital of the province and the region Emilia-Romagna.
Ancient university town, home to many students who enliven its cultural and social life. Known for its towers and its long arcades, has a well-preserved historic center, by virtue of careful restoration and preservation policy initiated by the late sixties of last century, despite the serious damage caused by urban demolition of the late nineteenth century and the destruction of war.
The city, whose origins date back to at least a millennium before Christ, has always been an important urban center, first under the Etruscans and the Celts (Bona), then under the Romans (Bononia), then again in Middle Ages, as a free.
Important artistic and cultural center, this role is sometimes difficult to be recognized, the absence of a “masterpiece” of world renown to attract mass tourists: however, its artistic and monumental importance is based on a homogeneous set of monuments and architectural and works of art result of an architectural history and artistic prime.
Bologna is an important road and rail hub of northern Italy, important trade fair and area of residence important mechanical industries, electronics and foodstuffs. It is the seat of important cultural institutions, economic and political.
