Santander description

Santander is a Spanish town of 182,926 inhabitants, capital of the autonomous community of Cantabria.

The bishopric and university and, apart from the Universidad de Cantabria is the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo del verano the university because its activity directed to foreigners with Spanish language courses take place mainly in summer months.

It is a modern industrial city and an important natural harbor into a deep inlet of the Gulf of Biscay (the Bay of Santander), among the foothills of the Cantabrian Mountains and the sea, to 108 from 197 km from Bilbao and Oviedo.

With its beautiful beaches and excellent climate, sheltered from the winds by the mountains of the Cantabrian chain is also an important tourist center – resort. It was a stage of the Camino de Santiago in Northern Ireland.
